Training and professional guidance internship - Bologna Campus

Professional internships are optional instruments available to graduates within 12 months of graduation, and aim to offer direct contact between the host organisation and the intern to foster the acquisition of professional skills and direct knowledge of the job world.

Professional internships in Emilia-Romagna

Internship consists in a period of training and careers guidance aiming to facilitate the professional choices and employability of young people in their transition from university to work, but is not in any case an employment relationship.

The recipients are graduates of the University of Bologna who graduated no more than 12 months earlier.

The maximum duration of the professional internship is 6 months in the same host organisation, including any extensions.

Implementing the State - Region guidelines of January 2013, an allowance must be paid to the intern and the activities performed and competences acquired at the end of the internship must be certified.

At the end of the internship, the certification of the activities performed and the competences acquired must be produced via the Regional Competence Certification and Formalisation System (SFRC), in line with the instructions given by the University.

Where to perform the internship

The internship can be performed in a company, a professional firm, a public body or other type of host organisation, with registered office in Emilia-Romagna.

To identify the host organisation you can:

  • log on to the internships app, apply for the available professional internship offers and/or submit your candidature and wait to be contacted by the company/organisation for an initial interview;
  • propose a host organisation that does not already have an agreement with the University, source it autonomously or through other contacts /the host organisation must in any case have signed an agreement with the University prior to the start of the internship, with the support of the Internships Office).

In any case by entering your candidature and/or other data on-line as well as data concerning the proposed host organisation, the procedure for starting the internship must be completed at the Internships Office.

How to start the internship

Having defined the learning outcomes and the activities to be performed with the intern, the host organisation must send an e-mail to ingarc.tirocini.bo@unibo.it indicating Attivazione tirocinio formativo e di orientamento in RER (Start of professional internship in RER) and specifying the data relating to the intern (name, surname, date of birth and qualification) in order to start the agreement procedure and start the internship.

To start the internship, prior to the start of activities the following must be drafted:

  • Internship plan containing the information and qualifying elements of the specific internship experience, complying with the instructions given by the Emilia Romagna region, and managing the file in the internship app
  • Internship agreement governing the rights and duties of the parties involved.

The University provides insurance cover for interns, against accidents at work and third party civil liability.

How to extend the insurance cover 

During the internship, it is possible to transfer to premises and/or facilities that are not indicated in the internship plan provided the activities are consistent with the internship outcomes and provided the host organisation and the intern have notified the matter by e-mail to ingarc.tirocini.bo@unibo.it with subject Variazione tirocinio formativo e di orientamento in RER (Variation of professional internship in RER) with at least one day's notice. 

How to extend or conclude in advance the internship

If you do not manage to complete the planned activities by the end date of the internship indicated in the plan, the host organisation and the intern can request an extension by e-mail to ingarc.tirocini.bo@unibo.it with subject Variazione tirocinio formativo e di orientamento in RER (Variation of professional internship in RER)  motivating the request.  The maximum duration of each internship, including extensions, shall not in any case exceed 6 months.

If the internship is concluded prior to the end date for activities indicated in the plan, the host organisation and the intern shall send an e-mail to ingarc.tirocini.bo@unibo.it with subject Variazione tirocinio formativo e di orientamento in RER (Variation of professional internship in RER) giving the reasons for the early conclusion (outcomes achieved, internship transformed into an employment relationship, etc.).
