Final Examination – Bologna Campus

General University rules and specific Engineering and Architecture School rules to apply for graduation and submit your thesis

How to register for the final examination – graduation session

The application is to be submitted on Studenti Online and once presented is valid for the whole academic year. When submitting the application, you’ll need to select the date among those available. If you aren’t able to sit the final examination on the selected date, you’ll have to register for a later date. The application can be submitted according to the deadline set even if you haven’t completed all the exams in your study plan.

The online application automatically produces a payment order (bollettino) for the graduation fee of 132,00 Euros, which includes the cost of duty stamps.

The payment can be made online or at any branch of UniCredit Bank by presenting the payment code which can be printed from Studenti Online.

You only need to pay the fee once, since the payment is valid for later examination sessions, except for a supplement if the fee meanwhile increases.

Paying the fee activates the application.

It is possible to apply after the deadline, by paying a penalty of 30€ for the first 7 days delay and thereafter 60€ until the final term set by the School, after which applying is no longer possible.

Please notice: Also in case of a late application, students must comply with the deadline for requisites.

Online application refers to one specific period. Should a student fail to graduate in the chosen period, he/she must ask the Student Administration Office to cancel the application and present it again online for the next period within the deadline.

If the student fails to set the final examination within the session (academic year) for which he/she has applied, he/she will have to repeat the online application. There won’t be the whole graduation fee to be paid, since it has been already paid for the previous session, however the duty stamp value of €16,00 will be charged.

DEADLINES

The application must be submitted on Studenti Online within the following deadlines:

*Before the deadline for the requisites students
must:

  • Take all the exams in their study plan (which need to be correctly recorded), gaining all the credits necessary for graduation (with the exception of those which have to be gained with the final examination).
  • Pay all due university fees, including possible penalties;
  • Fill out the online survey AlmaLaurea

Before the final exam, students need also to check that the Supervisor has approved the thesis title as indicated on the online application.

After the deadline the Student Administration Office will check each student’s application documents and contact the student if anything irregular is found. For some days after the deadline students may therefore expect to see a “documents being checked” notice on their online application.

How to upload your final thesis on Studenti Online and how to publish it on the institutional repository

Students need to upload the final thesis in pdf format on Studenti Online within three days before the date set for the final examination. The thesis content needs to be agreed upon with the Supervisor in advance.

Only for students graduating in Master’s programmes: if agreed with the Supervisor, students can publish the digital format of the final thesis on the institutional repository of the University of Bologna: Alma DL AMS-Tesi online (see instructions: http://www.engineeringarchitecture.unibo.it/en/final-examination/depositing-dissertations-in-digital-form)

Please note: It is forbidden to use the University of Bologna logo anywhere on the thesis.

Presenting your thesis during the final examination

Students wishing to use acetates for their presentation will find a projector in every lecture room.

If they wish to use their own computer they’ll be able to connect it to the video-projector. The School doesn’t provide computers to be used by graduating students for their presentation.

Please note that recent computers usually have just HDMI output and not VGA, so an adaptor is needed which is not provided by the School.

The best resolution for video-projection is 1024x768.

At the beginning of each exam, the Graduation Board might decide to use a single candidate’s computer for all the presentations, thus students are advised to bring their presentation on a removable support as well (USB flash drive, CD etc.).

Rules of behaviour

Graduation sessions are often spoiled by episodes that go beyond normal high spirits and become bad taste, bad manners and even prosecutable behaviour.

Such behaviour may be dangerous and damage School property, as well as causing annoyance to other people going about their institutional business (exams, office work, research, etc.).

Therefore, it was necessary to establish some rules of behaviour.

  • The School of Engineering and Architecture is not a venue for graduation parties. This goes for indoor areas (lecture rooms, staircases, entranceways, etc.) and outdoor areas (gardens).
  • Candidates are asked to limit the number of friends invited to watch the final examination. Celebrations should take place in proper places, such as restaurants or the student’s own home. Safety requirements limit the number of people to be present in the School at one time.
  • The room in which the graduation session has taken place must be vacated as soon as the proclamation has been made. The premises will be needed for other activities (such as further exam sessions).
  • It is strictly forbidden to put up posters and other material on the School walls. Such material is often pornographic and may lead to legal consequences.
  • Dangerous behaviour must be avoided.
  • It is strictly forbidden to remove and misuse School equipment serving a safety requirement.
  • The public are to leave the School premises by 6.30 p.m. at latest, when the last sessions usually finish.
  • Visitors are not allowed into the School grounds in their cars. Cars without a parking permit may be removed at the owner’s expense.
  • Security guards, and School/Vice-Chairmanship personnel are authorized to report episodes and reprimand transgressors.
  • Remember that the School premises are video-monitored. In case of serious bad behaviour the School will take every action to protect its property, staff and visitors.
